Study Skills Support from Your SU!

Meet with one of our Academic & Welfare Advisors to help you to reflect on how you learn and find the best way to organise your work.

Have you ever really thought about your learning preferences? Have you found a pattern of study that works in line with these? Everyone works differently, so we know that a “one size fits all” approach doesn’t cut it when it comes to exam or assignment preparation. Meet with one of our Academic & Welfare Advisors to help you to reflect on how you learn and find the best way to organise your work. Learning can be challenging but it shouldn’t feel like an uphill struggle. We’re offering you the opportunity to take a step back and figure out the most effective approach to your studies.

How can SU Advice & Support help me with my study skills?

If it feels like you're struggling to manage the heavy workload at University - or you're doing everything you can to learn course material but find that nothing is sinking into your memory - come and speak to us. In an appointment with one of our Advisors, we can give you the chance to reflect on your current workload management and learning strategies – exploring whether there are new, potentially more interesting and efficient, strategies for you to try. Our session will be completely led by your needs, and could explore:

- Your personal learning preferences.

- Different study techniques.

- How to organise your time and workload.

- How to look after yourself whilst studying.

- How to develop a personalised study support plan.

You may cover everything in one session, or you may plan in future sessions with your Adviser. Essentially, we facilitate your reflective thought process about how to get the most from your time studying; whilst also finding time for fun. It's all about finding the right balance for you.

How can I book an appointment with an Advisor?

Simply request an appointment and we'll book you in for a session at the earliest convenience. There's no waiting list, you just need to let us know a time that suits you and we'll try our best to match it. We can book student appointments (online or in-person) from 10:00-16:00, Monday to Friday, all year round (except Bank Holidays and University Closed Days). Alterntaively you can e-mail the team via advice@hertssu.com.

If you have any questions or concerns about studying or life at University, do not hesitate to contact Hertfordshire Students' Union Advice & Support Team for confidential and impartial information and support. You can complete our online advice request form or e-mail advice@hertssu.com.

And we are not the only source of study or academic skills support on campus, for details of other services visit the Study Success Hub page on Ask Herts
