Do I have to pay to join an academic society?

For the society you’re auto enrolled in, you don’t have to pay a penny; it’s free! Other academic societies might have a small membership fee, but many are just around £1. Just check each society page for the specific details.

 

What if I don't want to be automatically enrolled?

No worries! You can opt-out of emails if you prefer not to be part of the assigned society by unsubscribing to them, usually at the bottom of each email you receive.

 

Do members have any responsibilities?

How do I become a committee member?

Becoming a committee member is a fantastic way to get more involved, develop invaluable skills that are transferable in a work environment. How often do societies meet?

It totally depends on the society! Just check with them for the details. You can expect anything from a few times a semester to more frequent meetups. Either way, there’s always something fun going on.
