What is our society, and what is our purpose?

We are Herts African Caribbean Society, and our purpose of this society is to shine a light and celebrate different African and Caribbean cultures. We function different events to cater to our members to educate, love and appreciate their culture.

What are our objectives for the year?

This year we want to host different events to celebrate on what makes us unique from our music to our culture but to also educating ourselves and debunking culture clashes. Events ranging from games night, talks to acknowledging the black businesses that our members have created to cater to other members. At the end of the year, we believe our members deserve the best!

Why should you join our society?

The benefits of joining our society will help you make friends with different backgrounds from Africa or the Caribbean, be educated about different cultures, exclusive discounts to our events, workshops with potential partners to help with internship and placements, free events, sports events and networking with likeminded arty people! other societies in particular for your business or interests.

Meet the team?

Melyssa-Neema- President of the Afro-Caribbean Society. Currently, I am in my second year studying Child Nursing. My ultimate goal is to foster a sense of unity, encouraging people to connect with and learn about different cultures, while also embracing their own heritage. I am deeply committed to creating a joyful, supportive community where no one feels alone.

Malcolm- Vice-president of the Afro-Caribbean Society. I study Mass communication. I want to bring in a new vibe give people the opportunity to create good memories and meet new people at the University of Hertfordshire.

Ruvimbo- Secretary of the Afro-Caribbean Society. I aim to  support the committee to ensure that plans are fulfilled and communication is clear and ensure we do our very best. I will also ensure that meetings are conducted for plans to take place through out the academic year. 

Chisom- Treasurer of the Afro-Caribbean Society. I study Child Nursing. I want to make the ACS this year fun and enjoyable for everyone and make 2024/2025 a year to rememberr!

Nichole- Events Officer of the Afro-Caribbean Society. I am studying social work. My goal is to make Herts fun and live again. I also want to be able to plan cool events and collab with different people. 

Avize- Inclusivity officer of the Afro-Caribbean Society. My vision this year is to create a vibrant, supportive, and inclusive community that celebrates African and Caribbean cultures while fostering unity, personal growth, and excellence. Through dynamic events, educational programs, and networking opportunities, the aim is to provide a platform for members to connect, learn, and empower one another.

Anire- Sports officer of the Afro-Caribbean Society. My goal for the ACS as the sports advisor is to foster healthy relationships between society members through sports and also to create a place where African and Caribbeans can participate in sporting events to show of talents and skills in which they would not have the opportunity.

Dorcas- Social media officer of the Afro-Caribbean Society. I hope to unite and empower the African and Caribbean diaspora, through initiatives that champion diversity, equity, and inclusion And honestly just to have a fun time people young and lit.
