Philosophy Society Meet-Up

Wednesday 18 February 2026

4pm - 6pm

C214

This event is hosted by the Philosophy Society.

Agenda:

One of our members, Leo, developed an app that calculates how likely you are to accept certain conclusions based on your faith in the individual premises of classical arguments for the existence of God. In this session we will give the app a spin:)

What is the Hatfield Circle

The Hatfield Circle is a bi-weekly philosophy club. It is a dedicated space every alternate Wednesday 3pm to 5pm where anyone from Herts with a love for philosophy can come and engage in philosophy oriented activities in a relaxed semi-informal environment.

Why are we creating the Hatfield Circle? We feel that Herts is lacking a space that transcends particular modules and lectures where those interested in philosophy could meet up. Our goal is first and foremost to provide this space and let the community itself decide what to do with it while our society committee oversees that these ideas manifest in a smooth, organised way.

What activities might we possibly engage in? While the particular content of the meetings is up for the members to decide, here is an idea where the agenda might lean: Debates and discussions, the bread and butter of Philosophy! Some form of organised debate is surely to be expected. The topics will of course be standard philosophical topics such as the nature of moral propositions, whether the mind is physical, or whether you can successfully argue for the existence of God. Member presentations, guest speakers...and some more debating and discussing afterwards:) Book readings and film viewing are also an option (with some discussion and debating around them). Philosophy games! Anything from fun quizzes, to – drum roll – debates. But debates with a fun twist!

The possibilities are endless! Come to our meetings and help us decide. PS: We want to keep the last 30min of each meeting as a space for free socialisation where people can finish up interesting debates or simply get to know each other.

Open to Uni of Herts students and staff with a valid ticket. Please note that tickets are non-refundable, non-transferable and non-exchangeable. View the full Terms & Conditions here
