Defending our right to protest

Socialist Students Society Meeting: Our right to protest is under attack, join us this week to discuss how we can fight back and get organised!

We will be discussing the history of protest and civil disobedience in the UK, the criminalisation of the anti-war movement, and what this means for student activism today. How do we fight back and defend our right to protest?

JOIN THE SOCIALIST STUDENTS CONTINGENT AT THE NATIONAL MARCH FOR PALESTINE - SATURDAY 11th OCTOBER

Hertfordshire Socialist Students are meeting at Hatfield Train Station to travel to the demo together in the morning on Saturday. Please let the committee know if you would like to join and / or travel with us to the demo, either respond to this email or vote in the poll in the WhatsApp group chat. There will also be a gathering of Socialist Students from across the country at 3 p.m. in a café after the march in London. This event is not affiliated with Herts SU.

Society Meetings

Join us every two weeks for our regular Socialist Students society meetings. Here we discuss socialist perspectives on current affairs, union action, issues impacting students and get organised for action on campus and beyond. On the alternate weeks, we are hosting ‘Socialist Socials.’

Each meeting will include:

                  •               A lead discussion on a political or campaigning topic

                  •               Open discussion where everyone can contribute ideas

                  •               Organising time – planning recruitment, activism, campaign activities, and communications

This term we’ll be running a series on the history of student activism, covering topics such as Palestine student solidarity, climate strikes, and international perspectives on the student movement

We’ll also hold discussions on other key issues, including Black History Month, Nigerian solidarity movement, and the role of trade unions and strike action in fighting for socialist change.

Whether you’re new and just want to learn more or ready to fight for socialist change, these meetings are the best way to get involved in building a socialist student movement at the University of Hertfordshire.

Open to Uni of Herts students and staff with a valid ticket. Please note that tickets are non-refundable, non-transferable and non-exchangeable. View the full Terms & Conditions here
