Elections - Results

Elections season has come to an end!

We had 15 students run for our President Community & President Education roles, with a further 224 students putting themselves forward for 161 society committee positions. In total, we had 2,492 students casting a grand total of 6,955 votes. Now the results have been counted and verified, we're pleased to be able to reveal who your new student leaders will be for the 2026-27 academic year!

Congratulations to the students elected into their new positions! We're really excited to work with you next year and help you bring your ideas to life.

We made some changes to our elections this year to try and make it a nicer experience for candidates and voters alike. In addition to the changes we made to our Elected Officer model - introducing our new President Community & President Education roles - we made the decision to roll out voting at polling stations only, removing online voting. Our experience has shown that online voting can sometimes be more difficult to oversee effectively, and this process has previously resulted in high number of complaints coming through to our elections team. Moving to in-person polling stations allows us to better support a fair and transparent process, while also helping to create a more positive environment for students taking part. Having observed the behaviour of our Elected Officer candidates this year, this seems to have worked favourably, having received 90% less complaints than last year. Having said that, we do listen to feedback very carefully, and we did have some asking us to reintroduce online voting. In response to this, we introduced limited online voting windows during the final week. After an issue arose shortly only 30 minutes after launch, we had to remove online voting to protect the integrity of the process. Students who could not access campus were offered the option of a remote ballot, though no requests were made.

While our voting numbers are a little lower than in previous years, our candidates seem to have had a much more wholesome experience, and we hope that the same can be said for students who interacted with them during their campaigns. We did observe a lot more interest in candidates' priorities this year than in years gone by, which speaks to the greater level of respect that was seen during this election.

Thank you to everyone who got stuck in and had their say 🩵
