What are Society Committee Elections?
Society Committee Elections are the process by which students are fairly appointed as leaders of their society. Anyone who wishes to be on their society's committee must be elected into their desired position. We run the elections through our website as that way it's accessible to everyone and we can ensure only registered members of a society are able to run/vote.
Why should I run?
As a democratic organisation, it’s crucial that all of our leaders are elected into position. This includes our society committee members. For your society to remain affiliated with the Students' Union, it will need a committee that's responsible for running it. Every society committee must have a Chair, Secretary, Treasurer and Inclusion Officer. Societies that do not successfully elect these four positions may be at risk of disaffiliation. You can find out all about the benefits of being a society committee member and the support you can expect to receive here.
Can I run?
Those who would like to run for a committee position must be a registered member of the given society and be a UH student in the next academic year. Eligible students will be able to nominate themselves.
Please note that you cannot nominate someone else. All students hoping to be considered for a position must actively run themselves.
Can I vote?
Only students that are registered members of their society can vote for that society's future committee. Eligible students will be able to vote on the candidate(s) that have put themselves forward during the voting window.
What if my society doesn't fill all four positions?
Still have unfilled positions? Please email societies@hertfordshire.su to discuss next steps. We'll do our best to support you.
