We’re DKMS, a UK-based blood cancer charity dedicated to the fight against blood cancer and blood disorders and encouraging more people from all walks of life to take the quick and simple action of joining the stem cell donor register. Every 14 minutes, someone in the UK is diagnosed with blood cancer or a disorder such as leukemia, lymphoma, or sickle cell. For many, a stem cell transplant from a matching donor is their best – and sometimes only – chance of survival.
Currently, only 7% of the eligible UK population is on the register, and this is where you come in! You could help save a life by joining the register, volunteering, raising awareness, or fundraising for DKMS. We aim to increase the number of people on the register by educating and informing people about the simple way they can help save a life.
By getting involved with the university’s Stem Cell Society, you’ll also gain valuable hands-on experience in areas such as event management, finance, social media, and project management – all great additions to your CV. We have exciting plans for the year ahead, and we can’t wait to welcome you to the DKMS family!
