Signposting

As a Student Leader, you may have students ask you where they can find some support.

 

Your role is to represent students’ interests, not to deal with their personal issues, and you must maintain that separation for the duration of your time in post. If you encounter situations where students are approaching you with such matters, the best course of action is to signpost them to one of the services listed below.

 

Advice and Support

Students can contact our Advice and Support Centre for free confidential and impartial advice on academic and non-academic issues.

UH Student Wellbeing

Students can contact UH Student Wellbeing for counselling, mental health and disability support.

They can email studentwellbeing@herts.ac.uk for more information.

UH Student Funding & Financial Support Team

Students can contact UH Student Funding and Financial Support Team for queries regarding funding and financial support.

They can email funding@hertssu.com for funding or financial-support@hertssu.com for financial advice. Students can also visit AskHerts based in Hutton Hub on College Lane.

UH Residential Allocation

Students can contact UH Residential Allocation for queries regarding finding on-campus accommodation.

They can email accommodation@herts.ac.uk for more information.

SIT Advice Team

Students can contact SIT Advice Team for queries regarding visas, CAS letters and BRP.

Careers and Employment

Students can contact Careers and Employment for queries regarding placements, job opportunities and career support.

Exceptional Circumstances

The student must speak to their academic support (module leader/personal tutor) to discuss their circumstances and decide if an exceptional circumstances request is needed or whether a coursework extension is a feasible alternative.

 

To apply for an exceptional circumstances request:

1. Log into Student Record and apply using the Submit Request

2. Email the supporting evidence at the same time as the request to exceptionalcircumstances@herts.ac.uk

Academic Support

Students from School of Physics, Engineering and Computer Science can use the SPECs Academic Support Hub (SASH) for academic support tailored to their studies.
