Herts Unfiltered (25-26)

Finding out more about the student experience at Herts

Herts Unfiltered is reaching out to students all academic year, with the goal to gather feedback on students' expectations, experiences and concerns throughout the term. These insights help inform our efforts as a Union in supporting our diverse student body and working with the University to address key issues in real time.

Data was collected through conversations with students across both campuses and via an online survey. A huge thank you to everyone who has taken the time to provide their feedback!

Phase 1 - Start of Term Review

Herts Unfiltered launched in Semester A as a student-led listening project that captured the start of term experience through peer to peer conversations. Insights were shared in real time to address concerns as they emerged and to help shape future inductions, with most of the funding going directly towards student wages. In total, 2,044 responses were collected.

Phase 2 & 3 - Campus Engagement & Academic Confidence

Phase 2 of Herts Unfiltered focused on the on-campus experience and ran in October 2025, exploring attendance patterns, challenges and the value of engagement. Phase 3 observed academic confidence and ran in November 2025, examining confidence builders, confidence barriers and student support. In total, 5,327 responses were collected across both phases.

Phase 1-3 Combined - Semester B Entrants

Phases 1–3b focused on the experiences of Semester B entrants and ran between February – March 2026. The feedback opportunity was targeted exclusively at students who had begun their studies in Semester B. It was promoted entirely via e-mail, using registered student data shared with Herts SU by UH Academic Registry.

Phase 4 - Student Interviews

Phase 4 focused on the student experience and ran between February – March 2026, targeting students who were not eligible to complete the NSS, PTES, or Phases 1–3. The phase explored personal tutoring, community engagement, loneliness and student experiences of campus facilities. Responses were collected entirely through on-campus interviews conducted by Insight Assistants, with outreach activities delivered equally across both campuses. In total, 514 interviews were conducted.
