Introduction
With my track record of effective leadership as a former SUG representative in my B.Sc program, I understand the importance of advocacy and representation. I am contesting for the post of Black Student Officer at the University of Hertfordshire. I am ready to build on my experience and make our voices heard. My passion is to create an inclusive environment that fosters growth, connection, and empowerment for black students. As a team, we can ensure that every black student feels confident in their identity and contributions.
Vision
My vision is to advocate for a vibrant and supportive community for Black students at the University of Hertfordshire, where we can connect, collaborate, and thrive. I aim to celebrate unity in diversity and create spaces where our culture and achievements are recognized.
Strategy
? Host events to celebrate Black student's rich cultural heritage, history, and achievements.
? Provide practical entrepreneurship (SME) workshops to empower Black students with the knowledge to start and grow their businesses. (self-employed)
? Facilitate an event to expose Black students to government loans and sponsorships, helping us to overcome financial challenges.
? Act as the lead student representative for Black students.
? Proactively gather student views and use evidence to support representational activities.
? Advocate for increased representation of Black students in university decision-making bodies.
? Set up a confidential feedback system for Black students to voice their concerns and experiences.
? Organize regular meet-ups and events to foster unity and dialogue among Black students.
? Advocate for additional academic support services geared to Black students' needs as the needs arise.
? Establish mentorship programs connecting freshers and older students for guidance and support.
? Attend and report at the University and SU committees, the SU Board of Trustees, and the Student Council.
? Support and attend activities such as Open Days, Freshers, International arrivals, and official Students’ Union events representing Black students.
? Collaborate with the Student Union and University teams to promote Black student activities via social media.
? Timely inform and encourage Black students to engage with and maximize available opportunities.
Conclusion
I humbly ask for your support in this election. If elected, I will dedicate my time and energy to ensuring that the needs and aspirations of Black students at the University of Hertfordshire are met. Together, we will build a stronger, more inclusive campus for all. Black Lives Matter, and I am committed to making our voices heard. YES WE CAN
