Dear Student Union Committee,

I am reaching out to express my interest in the International Students' Officer position within the Student Union. With a background in leadership, community-building, and experience in navigating the unique challenges international students face, I am enthusiastic about the opportunity to bring these skills to a role that directly advocates for our diverse student body.

Currently pursuing an MSc in Aerospace Engineering, I am actively engaged in various cross-disciplinary projects and understand the importance of fostering inclusivity and support within an academic environment. My previous role as Team Leader for the Enactus team at the National School of Applied Sciences Berrechid, Morocco, has prepared me well for this position. As Team Leader, I managed a group of students in organizing events, coordinating community outreach initiatives, and leading technical projects that required both technical knowledge and interpersonal skills. This experience taught me to lead with empathy, communicate effectively with people from all backgrounds, and solve problems proactively all qualities that I believe are essential for an International Students' Officer.

Moreover, my linguistic skills in Arabic, French, and English, as well as basic proficiency in German, equip me to communicate effectively with a broad spectrum of international students, fostering a sense of belonging and comfort. I understand firsthand the difficulties that can arise from cultural adaptation and language barriers. I am passionate about promoting cultural awareness and sensitivity, and I would bring these qualities to the role to help students feel supported and understood. I am also experienced in conflict resolution, having mediated various team challenges during my leadership roles, which I believe would help in advocating for students’ needs with the university administration.

In addition to leadership and communication skills, I bring project management expertise developed through organizing numerous events, managing timelines, and collaborating with stakeholders to achieve common goals. If given the opportunity to serve as International Students' Officer, I would strive to initiate and improve support networks for international students, organize events to promote cultural exchange, and work with the university administration to address issues such as accommodation, career development, and academic support.

I aim to enhance the campus experience by creating a welcoming, inclusive environment where every international student can thrive academically, socially, and personally. I am confident that my experience, skills, and dedication would enable me to contribute positively to this mission.

Thank you for considering my application. I am eager to discuss how I can contribute to the Student Union’s vision as an International student Officer and to share my ideas for enriching the international student community here.

Warm regards,
Salwa Maymani
