Paola Zavala Rodriguez Gil

Manifesto for International Students' Officer

Hello, fellow international students! My name is Paola, and I’m honored to be running for International Students’ Officer. As someone who knows the excitement and challenges of studying far from home, I’m committed to making Herts feel like a second home for everyone!

And you may ask why are you running?

I understand the thrill of immersing in diverse cultures, learning new languages, and exploring unfamiliar places. However, I also recognize the unique challenges of adjusting to a new life abroad. I believe that every international student deserves a supportive, inclusive environment where they can thrive academically, socially, and emotionally. As International Students’ O=icer, I aim to bridge gaps, create connections, and celebrate the diversity and multiculturallity that makes Herts extraordinary.

My Vision and Priorities

1. Building a Welcoming Community: I will organize events that honor our rich multicultural backgrounds and create opportunities for us to share our unique traditions, languages, and experiences. From international food fairs to cultural exchange events, I want to foster a community where everyone’s identity is celebrated!

2. Championing Wellbeing Initiatives: Adjusting to a new life stage can be challenging, and mental well-being often needs extra support. I want to work closely with the university’s wellbeing services to introduce more accessible, culturally inclusive wellness resources and events designed for international students.

3. Amplifying Your Voice: Your experiences and feedback will be at the core of my initiatives. I will arrange regular feedback sessions and be your dedicated representative at all SU and university meetings. Your voice deserves to be heard, and I will work tirelessly to make sure it is!

4. Creating Opportunities for Connection and Growth: Transitioning into student life in a new country is much easier with strong friendships and supportive networks. I plan to create more social events and opportunities to connect with both international and local students, helping us all form meaningful bonds that last beyond university life!
