Green Impact

Hedgehog surrounded by grass

Green Impact is a national accreditation led by Students Organising for Sustainability (SOS-UK) and the National Union of Students (NUS). The framework is designed to enable Students’ Unions to educate students and staff, and deliver their offering in a more environmentally friendly way. We’re proud to say that after achieving ‘Working Towards’ for the 2019-20 academic year, we have now received a 'Good' accreditation for the 2020-21 academic year!

During the academic year we continue to create campaigns, lobby the University, run events and identify operational & strategic changes that we can make as a Students' Union to put towards the accreditation. A workbook is filled out which includes descriptions of any eligible activity taking place, supported by visual evidence. Once we have completed the workbook, we go through a self-assessment and mark how many points we feel we have gained. The workbook is then submitted and marked by the Green Impact SOS-UK team. We meet with one of the auditors to go through the details of the workbook and find out our provisional score.

We are committed to improving our Green Impact score in the coming years, and this is identified in our strategy where we want a year on year improvement until we hit and sustain the ‘Excellent’ accreditation, hopefully one day being identified as one of the top Unions for sustainable practices.
