Mark describes his journey as extremely unconventional. He was raised in local authority care and left school with no GCSEs or A Levels. After being put on a court order for anti-social behaviour, Mark diverted his attention toward his passion for music. Before his legal career, Mark had been a professional DJ, Radio 1Xtra presenter and music producer. He released an album with Ministry of Sound and produced remixes for high-profile artists, including David Guetta and Akon.
After 20 years in the music industry, Mark commenced his LLB at Birkbeck which he completed in 2018. He then undertook the LPC and was admitted to the roll of solicitors on 1st June 2020. Mark accumulated a wealth of appearances in Magistrates Court before completing his Higher Rights of Audience and deciding to transfer to the Bar. The Bar Standards Board awarded Mark a total exemption from the training and pupillage requirements. Mark was called to the Bar on 30th November 2020 and took up tenancy at Great James Street Chambers the very next day!
Mark also works with Spark2Life assisting young people in the criminal justice system, mentors for the Kana foundation, and is an ambassador for the Dyspraxia Foundation, having been diagnosed with the condition in adulthood.
